Sleep Café (2008)

[intervention in public space] – café / beds / varying furnishing
somniphile catering and articles

In cooperation with Michael Hoepfel

With a voluntary lack of self-control, sleep in public spaces undermines the workday demeanour of western countries. At the same time, sleep in foreign places leads to a shift of one´s relation to the choosen place in a way that can´t be rationally understood.
The Sleep Café is a place to cultivate and rehabilitate social sleep. With tables and chairs replaced by beds, the Sleep Café offers an accomplished and well-groomed place for a good nap in a public space. It is a first step towards a proclaimed ’society of sleep’.
